Curbside collection services are designed to provide a convenient and affordable solution for disposing of household waste and recyclable products and materials. Choose from standard trash collection services or add on additional trash or recycling collection bins. Our team will deliver your bins and handle collection and proper disposal of your household waste. Trash and recycling collection services are included in your service agreement.
Curbside Trash Collection
Automated collection services include the use of specialized bins large enough to accommodate household waste for the average household with an option to add on additional bins if needed.
Curbside Recycling Collection
Curbside recycling is the easiest and most convenient way for your household to go green and reduce waste by recycling common items like cans, plastic bottles, carboard and more.
- All eligible households receive one collection of residential trash each week, and each neighborhood is assigned a regular collection day, Monday – Friday. Find your trash day. Read the entire ordinance.
- Trash must be placed at the curb no later than 7 a.m. on the collection day, but not before 3 p.m. on the previous day. For example, it your trash day is Wednesday, trash must be placed at the curb before 7 a.m. on Wednesday, but not before 3 p.m. on Tuesday.
- Recycling and trash crews begin collecting at 7:00 am. We recommend that trash be set out between 6 – 7 a.m., on day of service, to reduce littering that results when animals get into trash bags overnight. Please note, routes do change for time of day weekly, due to several factors, so all residents must have trash and recycling at curb by 7:00 am on day of service. A return in service will not be granted for those “not-out” when trucks go by initially.
- If a holiday falls during the week, trash and recycling collection takes place on the day following the holiday, and collection for the remaining days of the week also takes place one day later than usual. Friday trash is collected on Saturday during such weeks.
- Who’s Eligible? Single-family homes, duplexes, and apartments or other housing units in buildings that contain six or fewer units get weekly residential trash collection and weekly curbside recycling service. Apartments, condominiums and townhouses that are in buildings containing seven or more units have trash service provided by the owner or manager
- Trash tags: We pick up two bags per week per eligible household without tags. If you have more than two bags, you will need to purchase a trash tag for each additional bag. Note: There is a limit of two free bags and 10 tagged bags each week. Trash tags cost $2.50 each at designated Westlake Ace Hardware and Price Chopper locations. You may also purchase trash tags at the Finance Department on the first floor within City Hall (open Monday through Friday, excluding holidays, from 8 am to 5 pm).
- The City will hold two, one week-long, no-tag (“trash amnesty”) events per year. Typically held the week after the 4th of July holiday and the Christmas holiday. Watch for advertised dates.

Residents should set their recyclables out every week. The recycle bin signals the recycling truck to stop. (Eligible households are single-family residences and apartments of six or fewer units). Prior to recycling, please remove food and rinse containers. Don’t contaminate! Also, do not place your trash bag on top of your recycling bins. If you do, your trash may be mistaken for bad recycling and/or your recycling will be violated for plastic bags or for bagging your recycling.
Bulky Item Collection Program is for disposal of large household items that cannot be handled in the regular weekly trash collection.
